New Year, Big Bang

The New Year is right around the corner and I wanted to go out with a Bang..literally. I have been wanting a change for a while and since I am too scared to cut my hair short I was convinced by Kat Tran, an up and coming hairstylist, to cut my bangs. Kat did a fabulous job and I have been in love with my new hairstyle ever since! So goodbye 2010 and I am excited to bring on new changes, new adventures, and new endeavors in 2011!

Holiday Looks: Dramatic Lashes

For this photo shoot I wanted to emphasize Brigitte's eyes and used a very dramatic eye lash and kept everything else simple.The fierce lashes creates a bold contrast that is stunning against her blue eyes.

Holiday Looks: Smokey, Glittery, Glamorous

Some of you might be thinking why is she wearing a pretty summer shirt in the middle of winter and why is this called Holiday Looks when it doesn't look wintery at all, well in Texas, winter comes and goes and this past weekend felt more like spring reaching temperatures in the 70s. As much as I want to bring out my winter coats and boots it just will have to wait until mother nature decides to bring Texas a "cold front." The weather, however, made for a perfect Saturday afternoon at the park. The pictures were taken at Houston's water wall near the galleria.

I asked my lovely friend Andrea who is a writer and fashionista to do a vintage shoot with me and Jenny at Coffee-A-Deli coffee shop. I wanted to take the classic holiday red lip and vamp it up with today's fall trend, purple lips. Andrea has an amazing vintage wardrobe and I knew she would be perfect for the part! The lip color I used was Bed Head's Passion it is a deep purple-maroon shade that is great for those who don't want to go too purple this holiday season!

Holiday Looks:Long Last-Eye Opening Makeup

I recently purchased some new MAC products and wanted to test them out for myself. I am definitely in love with what I purchased which was the new Pro Longwear Concealer and the Pro Longwear SPF 10 Foundation. It lasts for 15 hours and after trying it out, it works! I never had to reapply or worry that I would be losing its wonderful coverage throughout the day. Ladies, its definitely a must have for the holiday parties coming up!

I am addicted to blending, especially when it comes to my eyes. However, I wanted to create the appearance of a larger lid for the holidays so I applied Painterly followed by Jigs and Jives on my lid. Next I applied the Blue Brown shadow on my crease higher than where I would originally apply it. This gives the eye an open effect while still adding depth. I followed by blending the Blue Brown shadow up into my brow bone. The trick is not connecting or rounding out the darker shadow on the outer corner of the eye but putting it farther out away from the corner of your eye.

I am in love with a local boutique called Dog and Pony near the drag; this past weekend I stopped by and did a mini photo shoot with Rose, Vinh, and Jonathan (our photographer). While shooting, I made a fabulous purchase of gold snake skin earrings; make sure to look for them in the photos!

Makeup: 5 Smokey Pigments Mac Holiday set. I used the Naked all over the eyes, Jigs & Jive in the crease as well as Blue Brown to darken and create the smokey look. For my lips, I used Jigs & Jive with a clear lip gloss which is why I love pigments because they can be used on eyes, lips, cheeks, and even as nail polish ladies!!!

SoLa Fashion Exhibit

I attended the SoLa Fashion Exhibit on Thursday and here are some photos of the fabulous outfits that SoLa has to offer this season! 5% of all sales that night benefited Safe Place which I think was a great way to give back to the community as well as showcase new fashion. I also really liked that it was an exhibit versus a show because you could really look at the models, the outfits, and the jewelry unlike a fashion show were they zoom by you and if you blink you have missed something!

A group of us fashionistas went out this past weekend for a great night on the town! Sandhya called it a "glittery debauchery" and we definitely had a blast getting ready for these pictures which I think describe us more than you know! We went out to a couple clubs but my favorite was Enzo, a new club that is amazing! The dance floor lights up, the music is great, and the atmosphere is just right for a bunch of girls to dance around and have fun!

Created my business cards with Jenny and they are finally here and ready to be handed out! I really like the design that we came up with because when you have two of the cards together (as shown in the pictures below) it creates the whole image. The front has one half and the back has the other half of the image. <3

Mafia

We recently did a photo shoot that was inspired by the mafia era. We were able to shoot on location at Sherlock's Baker Street Pub and really captured the saloon feel. The best part of this shoot was that Rose and I were playing male roles and Tiffany played the beautiful heart breaker! It was definitely an experience to act hard and "man up" to play the part which was really different from the other shoots we have done were I am going for a fierce and stylish look. Here is a look that is going to be great for fall! Everyone is going to want the smokey eye. You can turn a simple day look into a night look with a little eyeliner and some black eye shadow, my favorite is Carbon from MAC. I finished the look off with Pale Lip lipstick from Lancome and Turkish Delight lip gloss from NARS.

Sew Excited

I get these urges to create things really randomly. I was sitting at my desk staring at my closet and remember that I had a bunch of material that I was using to sew a quilt. I took it out and was up all night sewing! I love it! Still not done so no pics yet. But i just love the creative phases I go through whether it is painting, sewing, pictures..it makes me who I am.

Been doing a lot of thinking recently, a bit of soul searching, and I have realized that things don't always turn out as planned. At first, I was having a hard time accepting this but now I know that there is a different plan for me. I had once lost hope but I see that many others failed hundreds of times before they achieved greatness.

Therefore, how would I ever achieve anything if I never failed?

It is those failures that make me a stronger person, a more desirving person. It is not the failures that I must focus on but the path it forces me to take because if life was always so easy.... success wouldn't be as sweet. All I can do is try my best, work hard, and never give up.

The beginning

This is my first adventure into blogging and I am excited about sharing my interests such as art, food, traveling and in essence my journey.

I took part of this quote "art is life and life is art...but the question is which one came first?" from Lady Gaga and made it my own because she is amazing and inspirational to those who are different. I changed it to ...Art is Life and My Life is Art... because its reflective of me as a person and to the story of my life.

There is a sense of freedom from the world that I feel when I have my paint brush in hand. I have the ability to create something to release the inner me and not worry about what others think. It is a freedom that has allowed me to grow as a person. I have found my "happy place" where I can be creative and comfortable in my own element.

As an oil painter I have learned that if something goes wrong and my painting is not coming together as planned I can always wipe the slate clean and start over with a fresh coat of paint. There is always a way to fix an oil painting and the beauty of it all is that it may take layers and layers of paint to get your painting to look right but those layers make it a masterpiece. Each layer is representative of a lesson and a step towards the ultimate goal. This is a reflection of my life....

Though everything I paint may not be right, though I may not know what the next step is, it is my canvas and I can only paint it one stroke at a time and in the end it will be my masterpiece. <3
